O,my
lord Panduranga, I have become mad and I am searching you everywhere || 1 ||
Only
one desire is left in my mind now and that is to behold your form. For this
purpose I have abandoned everything ,all my worldly duties. || 2||
I
have heard about your form , ( How you look, or appear) and My eyes have become
tired from the effort to search and see you.

Like
a fish out of water ,who desires nothing but water; I am also desirous to see
you only || 4||
Sant
Tukaram Maharaj says what should I do ;
so that I will behold your form. ?|| 5||
Background
Information for this Abhanga :-
Every
disciple of God wants only to behold the God . How I will see Him is the only
thought such a person has. The reason for this is the feeling of certainty the
God is there and only He can make me free from all the sufferings. There not
only the feeling of certainty but also there is very intense love too , in the
mind of such a disciple. BhagvadgIta addresses this certainty 9in the second
chapter. ( Chgapter 2- verse 16) . A real disciple has this certainty as well
as love fully blossomed in his heart.
When
such a disciple reaches the state described in this Abhanga then is certain
that he will soon see , behold his God. If we examine Sant Tukaram Maharaja's biography , we can see that
Sant Tukarama maharaj when He was in such a state has written this abhanga.
Meaning
of the Abhanga :-
Sant
Tukaram maharaj is asking his Lord that O 'my lord Panduranga, I am searching
for you in every direction like a mad person.For beholding your form, I have
abandoned all my worldly duties . My mind only desires of Beholding you. I do
not know how you appear, but I have heard about your appearance ( How you look
etc) .( We all know that there are a number of Poems in which different poets
have described the Lord. So also the Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita describe How the
Lord is.)
Sant
Tukaram Maharaj further says that I am unable to behold you and because of this
, my eyes have become tired. My condition is like a fish out of water. I want
only you and nothing but you.
At
the end , Tukaram Maharaj says prays to Lord. He says that O'Lord please tell
me What should I do?
Teachings
Of the Abhanga :-
This
Abhanga enables us to examine the state of our mind. It enables us to examine
whether we are really desiring to behold the Lord ? In the path of spirituality
it is very important to have such a self examination. This examination only
enables to change our attitude and pushes us to put forward our efforts with
concentrated mind.

शब्दार्थ :-
हे देवा पांडुरंगा , माझा जीव
तुझ्याकरता वेडा झाल्याने मी दाही दिशांस तुला शोधतो आहे ॥ १॥
आता माझ्या मनांत फक्त तुझे दर्शन व्हावे हाच एकच छंद उरला
आहे,लोकव्यवहाराचा मी त्याग केला आहे ॥ २॥
तुझ्या स्वरूपाचे जे वर्णन मी ऐकलें आहे तेच रूप दिसावे
ह्याच्यासाठी माझे डोळे लागले आहेत व ( तू न दिसल्यामुळे
ते थकले आहेत). ॥ ३॥
पाण्यावाचून मासा जसा तळमळतो तसेच माझा प्राण तुझ्या
दर्शनाकरतां तळमळत आहे ॥ ४ ॥
संत तुकाराम महाराज म्हणतात की ज्या योगे तुझे दर्शन होईल असा कोणता उपाय मी
आता करू? ॥ ५॥
अभंगामागची भूमिका :-
भगवंताची भेट कशी होईल असे प्रत्येक भक्ताला वाटते. ह्याचे
कारण म्हणजे मनामधे भगवंत आहेच व तोच मला सर्व दु:खातून
सोडवेल ही मनाची खात्री म्हणजे भाव भक्ताच्या मनामधे असतो. भाव याचा संस्कृतमधला अर्थ हाच आहे की " असण्याची खात्री असणे ". गीतमधे
म्हटल्याप्रमाणे फक्त भगवंतच खरा आहे व बाकी सर्व एक भासच आहे ( गीत अ.२ श्लोक १६ ) .असा
भाव भक्ताच्या मनामधे असतोच व शिवाय त्याच्या मनामधे भगवंताबद्दल पराकोटीचे प्रेम
पण असते.
असा भक्त भगवंताच्या भेटीसाठी व्याकूळ होतो .ही
स्थिति येणे म्हणजे भगवंताच्या साक्षात्काराची वेळ जवळ येणे होय. संत तुकाराम महाराजांची अशी स्थिति असताना त्यांनी हा अभंग रचला आहे. महाराजांचे चरीत्र पाहिले की ते अशा स्थितीत होते असे दिसते .
अभंगाच्या अर्थाचे स्पष्टीकरण :-
संत तुकाराम महाराज पांडुरंगाला आर्तभावाने विचारताहेत की
हे देवा, तुझ्यासाठी माझा जीव अगदी वेडापिसा झाला आहे. तू
कोठेतरी दिसशील म्हणुन नजर सर्व दिशांना भिरभिरत पाहाते आहे. तुझी भेट व्हावी म्हणून मी सर्व कांही लोकव्यवहार सोडून दिले आहेत. आता मनाला एकच छंद लागला आहे तो म्हणजे तुझे दर्शन व्हावे. तू कसा आहेस हे मला माहीत नाही. पण मी तुझ्या
रूपाचे वर्णन ऐकले आहे.
( आपण सर्व जाणतोच की असे भगवंताच्या रूपाचे वर्णन निरनिराळ्या स्तोत्रांत,भगवद्‍गीतेमधे, भगवतामधे आले आहे.)
पण ते रुप कांही मला दिसत नाही आहे व आता माझे डोळे तुझ वाट
पाहून थकले आहेत. जर माश्याला पाण्याबाहेर काढले तर तो जसा तळमळतो तशीच तळमळ मला तुझ्या
दर्शनाची लागली आहे. महाराज शेवटी देवांना विनवितात की "हे देवा तूच ह्यावर उपाय सांग जेणेकरून मला तुझे दर्शन होईल.”
अभंगाची शिकवण :-
ह्या अभंगाचा उद्देश आत्मपरीक्षणा करताच आपल्याला करता येतो. आपण
स्वत:चे अंत:करण तपासुन समजू शकतो की
आपल्याला खरेच अशी भगवंताच्या भेटीची तळमळ लागली आहे कां?
परमार्थामधे असे आत्मपरीक्षण करणे महत्वाचे आहे.
